HERVEY Bay residents turned out in the hundreds to put their best feet forward to help raise money for cancer research.

Organisers estimate about 1200 people gathered on Seafront Oval for the candle lighting ceremony which was the peak of the evening.

Relay for Life organiser Tammy Sloan said more than 780 people registered as participants and have so far raised more than $55,000 dollars with more money expected to come in over the coming weeks.
