Relish Festival back on today after bad weather

RELISH Food and Wine Festival has been postponed until Sunday with severe weather expected to lash the Fraser Coast on Saturday.

Event organisers for the Relish Food and Wine Festival have announced the event will be delayed until Sunday on weather-related advice from the Bureau of Meteorology.

Tourism and events manager for Fraser Coast Opportunities Tas Webber said that festival goers would be treated to the same demonstrations, entertainment and atmosphere on Sunday instead of the originally scheduled Saturday.

"Whilst it is never ideal to make a late change like this, we have been patched in to the appropriate authorities through the week and the advice is that a narrow front is likely to hit Friday evening and Saturday, with the weather then likely to clear by Sunday," he said.

"The fantastic news is that we have been able to work behind the scenes on a contingency for Sunday which includes only minor changes."

Other than the Gatakers Artspace Live Entertainment and Food Art, all of the demonstrations, entertainment, and sessions going ahead at the same times as previously advertised.

The only other item that organisers haven't been able to hold over is the on-site ATM and as such are encouraging the public to come prepared.

"Required changes have been minimal and we are extremely pleased and thankful of the support from our stakeholders to make Sunday possible. The CBD ATM's are in close proximity and we will of course have signage to apologise", Mr Webber said.

"Our ultimate message is that Relish Food and Wine Festival is now scheduled for Sunday - we are looking forward to welcoming the crowds for a great day out.

"As to if the event will definitely go ahead, our team will be monitoring the weather throughout Saturday, and confirming once a decision can be reached in the interest of patron safety" Mr Webber said.

The 2016 event has included a successful pre-sale of tickets both for the gate and further side events such as the Masterclass and Relish Long Lunch. Any ticketholder who is unable to make the Sunday event is asked to contact the event organising team by calling the Maryborough Visitor Information Centre on 1800 214 789.
