Rescue chopper finds missing couple in Wongi State Forest

A GREY-nomad couple was forced to spend the night in the Wongi State Forest on Saturday after their vehicle became bogged.

The couple from Kalbar were attempting to leave the forest, north of Maryborough, when their sedan became bogged on a rough, narrow track.

They tried to free the car themselves but eventually ran out of petrol.

Mobile coverage was poor but the pair was able to alert authorities through text message.

RACQ Careflight was called in on Sunday afternoon to join the police search amid growing concern the missing man suffered diabetes and had run out of food.

Rescue crew spotted the vehicle within half an hour.

"They were in good spirits and definitely happy to be found," CareFlight aircrew officer Rick Harvey said.

"They certainly didn't want to spend another night out there."
