Research looking into low-cost solar cells

A $945,000 Federal Government grant to support Queensland research into plastic solar panels has been welcomed by State Minister for Mines and Energy Stephen Robertson.

The money will go towards the University of Queensland’s $1.95 million research project. Mr Robertson said the research was looking at improving the efficiency of plastic photovoltaic cells to potentially deliver a low-cost, flexible solar cell that could be integrated into buildings and other consumer products.

The funding falls under the Australian Solar Institute’s solar energy grants program.
