Allison reaches out to rural folk
RESIDENTS of Maryborough’s rural areas can expect to see more of Allison Shoesmith from now on.
After a stint in Emerald where she built a “strong rapport” with the community, Ms Shoesmith has returned the Heritage City to take up the position of Centrelink’s Rural Services Officer.
“I’ve been with Centrelink for more than nine years and since becoming an RSO I’ve met lots of people who have very little knowledge about the type of government services that are available to them,” she said.
“My focus will be to strengthen community connections with Centrelink and raise awareness of services and increase the agency’s presence within the community.”
Centrelink employs a network of RSOs who reach out to regional and rural communities across the nation.
They can visit residents at their farm, home or business and confidentially discuss individual circumstances and eligibility for various Centrelink payments.
They also provide referrals to other specialist Centrelink services such as Financial Information Service Officers or social workers and can connect remote residents with local community and social groups.
