Resort scare as man, 90, crashes into deep pond

AN ELDERLY man has escaped without injury after crashing his car deep into a pond at a Sunshine Coast resort.

Emergency crews were called to the Ivory Palms Resort about 2.25pm yesterday, and the 90-year-old driver was out of the car by the time they arrived.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the man did not require transport to hospital.

Clayton's Towing workers, who were called to the scene to remove the vehicle, reported the only injury was to the man's pride after he accidentally accelerated into the pond.

Yesterday afternoon a Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed the car had been removed from the pond.

Clayton's Towing posted the photos to its Facebook page, sparking a discussion among commenters over whether elderly motorists should be encouraged to give up driving.
