Revolution sticks the boot into Pride

WIDE Bay Revolution's under-16 boys returned to the winner's circle with a morale-boosting 3-0 victory over Western Pride in Gympie on Sunday.

The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the Revolution, and was just its fifth victory of the National Premier League season.

Coach Phil Rimmer was delighted with the defensive pressure to make it just their second clean sheet for the season.

"It wasn't overly pretty, but they were a physical team so we changed our game plan as we went on and the boys adjusted well," he said.

"We have a very strong midfield and looked good going forward and that was all because the backline was very strong and solid the whole game and quite accurate in playing out."

Rimmer has the Revolution's defence playing as a good tight unit with Cody Galvin and Blake Baldwin, of Hervey Bay, making their mark in the back line.

Maryborough's Lewis Reibel is also improving in his role as the link between the defenders and forwards, controlling the midfield with swift ball movement.

The Revolution's finals hopes ended a few weeks ago, but Rimmer insists they still have plenty to play for.

"It's extremely important in terms of our long term goals," he said.

"We're playing in the best league in Queensland and to finish it strongly and being competitive is what it is all about."

It was a good day for the Revolution's boys sides with its U14, U15 and U18s also chalking up wins, while the U13s were extremely unlucky not to taste victory after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3.

Rimmer said the club was thrilled with the improvement its players have made since the start of the season.

"They came into a league of a much higher standard and it's been a learning curve for all of them," he said.

"But every team and every player has improved and stepped up and the signs are really good."
