Reward offered in search for much-loved pet snake
TO SOME, Jimmy the jungle python might just seem like just another snake but to Maryborough's Bate family he is an affectionate and much-loved pet.
Jenna Bate said her entire family is devastated following the disappearance of the 2.5m snake, who she said was as friendly as any dog could be.
The snake went missing just before Christmas and he hasn't been seen by the family since.
Mrs Bate believes he discovered the latch to his cage was loose and pushed against it until it opened.
The family had owned Jimmy for more than seven years.
When a fire destroyed the Bate family's home in Kent St in August, 2013, Jimmy managed to survive.
His disappearance now is just another bitter blow for the family.
The family is asking anyone who might have seen their scaly friend to come forward and they are offering a reward to anyone who returns Jimmy.
"I'd be stoked," said Mrs Bate, adding that whether Jimmy was alive or dead, the family would like some closure if there was anyone out there who could let them know what has happened to their pet.
