Muir only senator to keep threat to snub PM's dinner
RICKY Muir appeared to be the only micro-party or independent senator sticking with the threat not to join Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for dinner last night.
Senator Muir and crossbencher colleagues Jacqui Lambie, Bob Day and Glenn Lazarus had earlier this week threatened to decline the invitation to dinner.
The crossbenchers had indicated they would not attend due to their anger at the Coalition-Greens' deal over changes designed to reduce "preference gaming" in the Senate voting system.
But senators Lazarus, Day and Lambie indicated yesterday they would join Mr Turnbull for the dinner at The Lodge last night in an attempt to broach other issues with the PM.
Sen Muir told the ABC, however, he would not be attending the dinner, instead preferring to spend time with constituents in Victoria.
The voting changes were referred to a short committee inquiry in parliament, which Labor said would not provide enough time.
