RIO 2016: American gymnast wins fourth gold

GYMNASTICS: Simone Biles has become the first gymnast since 1968 to win four gold medals at a single Olympics.

Fellow American Aly Raisman took home the silver, scoring 15.5.

Biles took the floor title with a score of 15.966 to go with the team, all-around and vault gold to match the efforts of Vera Caslavska of the then-Czechoslovakia in Mexico City.

The 19-year-old American superstar, who is the three-time defending world champion in the all-around, came into the Rio Olympics with high expectations of five gold medals. With her gold medal in the vault event, she was three from three.

Dubbed the most dominant female gymnast in recent memory, Biles proved she was only human after a slight slip on the beam meant she could only win bronze.

That cost her the chance to become the first female gymnast to take five Olympic titles but there is still no doubt the American has been one of the stars in Rio after winning five medals from her six events.

Her balance beam performance in the individual all-around event was one of the highlights of the gymnastics program.

Agnes Keleti of Hungary (Melbourne 1956) was the only other woman to take four Olympic gymnastics gold medals.
