River Heads work to start after geotechnical results return
TENDERS will be called to complete repair works along River Heads Rd once geotechnical results come back.
The road was closed due to a landslip in March on a section of embankment immediately north of the Bengston Rd intersection.
As well as an embankment slip, longitudinal cracks had opened up in the road surface indicating further movement was occurring underneath. The risk of a serious embankment slip following more wet weather was considered too great to allow the road to remain open.
Division seven councillor Darren Everard said geotechnical work on the site was completed earlier this month and testing of samples was underway with the results due in the next week.
"Design work on the vertical alignment of River Heads Rd has started and is on track to be finished by the end of May," he said.
"Tenders will then need to be called for a contractor and construction will start immediately afterwards."
It is expected to take up to three months for the works to be completed, subject to contractor availability and weather.
The road will be opened to the public as soon as remedial works have reached a stage when it can be safely used again.
