Roar rising star sent packing from Kiwi camp

BRISBANE Roar fullback Dane Ingham's World Cup hopes have taken a blow after he was expelled from a New Zealand camp for being unfit.

Ingham was a part of New Zealand's squad for the All Whites' 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Solomon Islands tomorrow in Auckland.

However, he will be instead be in Ballarat for the Roar's trial against Melbourne Victory tomorrow night.

Reports out of New Zealand said teenager Ingham was not at the required standard of fitness when he arrived in Auckland this week.

"He came in but he was unfit, his body fat was high, and we've given him a couple of fitness tests and he's not where he needs to be," New Zealand coach Anthony Hudson told stuff.co.nz in explaining his decision to send Ingham back to Brisbane.

"I know he was upset and it's hard for him, but I've told him he's a massive part of what we want to do, he's going to be back in here in no time, I know he'll respond the right way."

Reports said Ingham's failure to complete a beep test was also an issue.

Roar football director Craig Moore met with Ingham yesterday and said the club would provide the shattered 18-year-old with the support he needed.

"I don't think it was good the way the situation was handled," Moore said.

"We were never given any guidelines by the New Zealand Football Association about the level of fitness Dane was expected to be at."

Ingham represented New Zealand at this year's Confederations Cup, and soon after signed a long-term deal with the Roar.

Meanwhile, the Roar have failed in their appeal against a $10,000 fine issued to coach John Aloisi for his failure to provide a post-match interview after an AFC Champions League match in South Korea in February.
