Robert Irwin stuns with nature photos

CRIKEY! Robert Irwin, son of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, sure knows his way around a camera. The 13-year-old wildlife warrior has demonstrated an exceptional talent behind the lens with a series of candid and close-up images of wildlife in their natural habitats.

Irwin, who "travels the world in search of incredible images of wildlife and wild places", according to the bio on his website, has taken photos in remote locations - from Africa and Europe to New Zealand. All creatures large and small have been the captured under the focused gaze of Irwin's lens, including zebras, elephants, hummingbirds, spiders, snakes, sea turtles and whales.

The young photographer has had his work regularly published in Australia Zoo's Crikey magazine, and received recognition for his images in numerous highly-regarded photography contests. This year he was named a finalist in the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of Year competition and was a runner-up in 2016 with a close-up image of a croc's teeth.

"The saltwater crocodile is a modern-day dinosaur that is an integral part of the precious ecosystem," said Irwin, said of the photo.

"I had the privilege to photograph the awe-inspiring predator in its natural habitat. An amazing experience," said Irwin. Undoubtedly he shares his famous father's love for the toothy creatures.

Steve Irwin passed away on 4 September, 2006, when Robert Irwin was still a toddler, but the passionate teenager is following in his famous dad's footsteps. Like his father, Irwin has starred on nature-based television shows, including Wild But True and Steve Irwin's Wildlife Warriors. More recently he has flown to New York to made appearances on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he has introduced the late-night talk show host to black bear cubs, a kangaroo and sloth, among other weird and wonderful wild critters.

Irwin started taking photos with a small digital camera when he was just six years old and has previously attributed his interest in photography to his dad, saying: "He was not only the most amazing dad and incredible wildlife warrior on the planet, he also had an extraordinarily artistic mind and took breathtaking photos of nature."

The inspiring young wildlife enthusiast's breathtaking photos have also appeared in galleries across the country and in publications and websites worldwide. In addition to his wildlife images, Irwin has an interest in photographing landscapes, street scenes and architecture. To see more of his work, visit robertirwinphotos.com.
