Rockhampton boys win Fashions in the Field at Melbourne Cup

A CAREER in men's fashion may have been the trick to two former Rockhampton boys scooping up first and second prize at yesterday's Melbourne Cup.

Wyatt Hornery and Riley Featherstone attended the Melbourne Cup Doomben races yesterday and the event did not disappoint with both of them placing in the men's fashion competition.

Wyatt, 20, said it was a last minute decision to go to the race.

"We both had the day off and thought, why not," he said.

"You've got to watch the race that stops the nation somewhere, may as well do it at the track. The day was really nice, we thought about entering a bit before the day but hadn't made any solid decisions, once we got there we were pretty confident so we thought why not give it a shot."

Wyatt took out the competition winning first prize followed closely by his best friend Riley, 21, who won runner up.

Wyatt said they were stoked with the results.

"We both work in menswear so we wear suits basically everyday, it's nothing really out of the ordinary for us," he said.

"We did put in effort with colour, pattern and texture matching and we were both wearing something a little different to everyone else. It was quite amazing to pick up a win, we only just made it on stage before registration closed.

"It's nice to get a bit of recognition for putting in the effort."
