Roof over their heads

ALONG with three dogs and a pony, Barbara and Bill Harris have a never-ending trickle of teenagers moving through their Maryborough home.

The dedicated couple are foster carers and have been taking in at-risk children for more than 50 years.

They are now in their 70s but still have five teenagers they care for and are often visited by the dozens of kids they have helped in the past.

It doesn't compare to the 13 foster children the Harris's had when the house was at its fullest.

The two carers and their counterparts across the Fraser Coast will be honoured as part of Child Protection Week.

Care Pathways Maryborough was given a $1000 grant to celebrate their foster carers, who will be given a night out to celebrate their achievements.

Child Protection Week will be held from September 2-8.
