RTI changes attack 'freedom of all Queenslanders': Palmer

OUTSPOKEN mining magnate Clive Palmer is obviously in no hurry to have his membership to the Liberal National Party in Queensland reinstated.

Mr Palmer, who had his party membership suspended earlier this month after repeated attacks on Premier Campbell Newman and other senior ministers, was at it again on Monday.

This time he had Queensland Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie in his sights.

There have been reports in the media, in the wake of the Bruce Flegg debacle, that Mr Bleijie wants to water down Right to Information laws because public scrutiny was scaring people away from politics.

Such a move would be an attack on the "freedom of all Queenslanders", Mr Palmer said.

He said the fact it was even being discussed was cause for concern.

"This is an outrageous suggestion that attacks the freedom of all Queenslanders and attempts to stifle political debate," Mr Palmer said.

"What is really going on behind closed doors with this government if it wants to operate in secrecy?

"Reviewing RTI legislation to protect politicians sends a warning signal to all Queenslanders that there is something terribly wrong with the system.

"All members of parliament and all political leaders regardless of which party they represent should fight very hard to ensure proper transparency between government and the people it represents is maintained."

Mr Palmer's membership of the LNP will be discussed by the executive when it meets on Saturday.
