Saturday is Hervey Bay's major Christmas carols event

CHRISTMAS spirit will be in the air along with a predicted lovely sea breeze at Hervey Bay's major Christmas carols event this weekend.

Fraser Coast's best musical acts will come together to play everyone's favourite festive tunes, mixed in with a few contemporary numbers.

On Saturday will be the Hervey Bay RSL Christmas Carols by Candlelight held at Seafront Oval in Pialba.

A pre-show will start at 5.30pm, with the main show to follow at 7pm.

Bayside Christian Church pastor Ross Davie will emcee the evening.

"I'm really looking forward to it and seeing all the singers," he said.

"The carols will be just eight days out for Christmas so it's the perfect opportunity to celebrate the real spirit of the holiday.

"We got washed out last year but the weather is looking good for Saturday."

The pre-show will include an indigenous choir called Lilly Pilly who will sing a contemporary piece, a kids choir, and an array of local singers including Derek F Smith.

Santa will be there too, making his appearance at about 6.20pm.

The main show will be performed by the Bayside Christian Church Choir.

Organiser Kerrianne Hetherington said this was a completely free event.

"There will be food stalls there, but people are welcome to bring their own picnic," she said.

"People can come dressed in Christmas theme clothes."

The night will finish with a bang with a colourful fireworks display.

A crowd of about 8000 people is expected to attend.
