Sauiluma scoring spree powers Bears to victory
LEAGUE: Two tries and Sami Sauiluma and the radar-like boot of returning halfback Jamal Fogarty handed Burleigh Bears a come-from-behind 24-14 win against CQ Capras at Eskdale Park on Saturday.
The game was brought to the Heritage City as part of Intrust Super Cup's Country Week, which takes all fixtures to regional areas.
Maryborough's die-hard rugby league fans were treated to one of the Capras' strongest performances of the season, as the Rockhampton club powered to an 8-0 half-time lead.
Burleigh found its groove in the second half, and once Fogarty got going there was nothing that could stop the Bears from snapping its two-game losing streak.
Sauiluma said his side loved the concept of Country Week.
"It is a road trip, but we've got a few country boys in our side," he said. "They love giving back to the community.
"(The Capras) had us, they had us early. We've had six or seven out for the past few weeks now so it took some time to gel. Once we did, we got the better of them.
"I think it was just playing simple footy. We went back to what we're good at and our smarts got us out in the end.
"Coming off back-to-back losses its important to string a few wins together at this stage of the season. We put a lot of effort into our defence and we came good at the end.
"We need to put together an 80-minute performance."
