School traffic chaos

SCHOOL drop-off time got even more hectic yesterday morning after a driver swerved in front of oncoming traffic, taking out another vehicle and narrowly missing pedestrians.

About 8.40am the 74-year-old man allegedly took a sharp right- hand turn into Islander Rd, Pialba, smashing into a sedan travelling north down Beach Rd.

Both cars mounted the kerb and came to a crushing halt at the intersection.

A spokesman from the Hervey Bay Police Station said it had been “a lucky escape” for all concerned.

The elderly man was treated for shock and taken to the Hervey Bay Hospital with minor injuries.

He is charged with driving without due care and attention.

Earlier in the morning a motorcyclist was also lucky to escape with minor injuries after crashing down a grass embankment following an attempt to dodge roaming animals.

The accident happened on McLiver St, Kawungan, about 6.30am.
