Schoolies suspected in thefts

POLICE are investigating the thefts of garden items from homes in Hervey Bay, which they say could be part of end-of-year Schoolies pranks.

On Saturday night, glazed ceramic pot plants were stolen from the front yard of a Urangan home.

Other pot plants at the Alexander Street house were tipped upside down and left in the yard.

Also over the weekend, a concrete water feature was stolen from a Hillcrest Avenue yard at Scarness.

Last week, a bird bath was stolen from a Torquay home.

$500 drug fine

A MUM has been fined $500 in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to two drug offences.

Julie Ellen Hosking-Blundell was found with a small amount of marijuana and several syringes and needles when police searched her Maryborough home in September 2007.

She told Magistrate Graeme Tatnell she was now clean of drugs and was intent on looking after her three children.

House numbers

HERVEY MP Ted Sorensen has asked Housing Minister Karen Struthers in State Parliament how many new public housing houses have been made available in the Bay since 2006.

Mr Sorensen said the question on notice was asked because he had received a lot of inquiries at his office about the public housing waiting list.

“I have also asked for indigenous housing to be included and for this to be listed separately.”

Message mess-up

PETER Frederick Patzwald was fined $500 for breaching a domestic violence order.

Patzwald was banned from having contact with the aggrieved woman but sent her several text messages in August.

He pleaded guilty in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to the charge.
