Seagulls one win from grand final

IT IS the biggest game of Hervey Bay's season so far.

The Seagulls will face Past Brothers on Saturday for a place in the Bundaberg Rugby League grand final.

If successful, it will be the club's third straight decider.

Captain Clinton Horne has not yet considered that possibility. Instead, the veteran halfback and his teammates are focused solely on the battle with one of their fiercest rivals.

"They're a good young side,” Horne said.

"They've got some great players in the Olive brothers (Quentin and Rueben) and (hooker) Brent Kuskey.

"We've done a bit of work on them but it's not just them. We've got a game plan in place.”

The Seagulls finished one point ahead of Past Brothers atop the BRL table.

While Hervey Bay had a first-week bye, Past Brothers beat Wallaroos for a place in the major semi final.

While the rest helped niggling injuries, the team endured some of its best training sessions of the year to be primed for battle.

"The last couple weeks haven't been great but this week has been our best all year,” Horne said.

"We've had good numbers and we're ready to rip in.”

Wallaroos face Waves Tigers in the minor semi-final at 5pm, with the Seagulls and Past Brothers to lock horns at 6.30pm.

All finals games will be held at Salter Oval, Bundaberg, with the decider set for September 10.
