Few chosen at triathlon trials

A BIG weekend is ahead for triathlon competitors from around the Fraser Coast.

The Wide Bay Selection Trials will be held from 7.30am today, bringing together some of the best young competitors from around the area.

Tomorrow the Hervey Bay Triathlon Club will host the second last triathlon of the year.

The juniors event will start at 7.20am and the seniors will start at 8.10am.

The seniors open distances will be a 500m swim, 20km cycle and 4km run.

The intermediate competitors will do half that distance.

Organiser Ron Morgan said 70 people had already indicated via the club’s website that they would be competing and, after a tough couple of months on the triathlon circuit, he said he was thrilled that so many would be taking part.

“I’m chuffed that so many people are coming along.

“It should be a lot of fun.”
