WHO knew that a modest gathering among family many years ago would see Reg and Phyllis spend the next 70 years of their lives together?

On Friday, Reginald and Phyllis McCubbin, who married in 1944, are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in the company of their family which includes three children, four grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren with one more on the way.

The happy Maryborough couple agrees the key to a successful marriage is not to disagree.

"It's very simple," Reg said.

"Make sure you agree more often than you don't."

"That means we can't cook together," Phyllis jokes.

"The kitchen would cause the most problems so I like to keep out of it."
