Seventh time a charm for pub fest?

THEY will be out in their thousands this weekend as pubs and patrons alike gather to crawl their hearts out for a cause.

First-time crawler Kerrina Haupt is undoubtedly excited for the long-standing annual festival although is disappointed this year's World's Greatest Pub Fest will possibly be the last.

“I'm so excited for the crawl,” she said. “I have been organising my group and costume for weeks.”

This year Maryborough makes its seventh attempt at the world record title, trying to beat its own record of more than 4700 official crawlers, set in 2009.

Up to 10,000 crawlers, many dressed in outrageous costumes, will set off to the bang of an historic time cannon and walk or ride on free buses around Maryborough's historic old hotels – all in the name of claiming the record.

Criterion Hotel manager Clay Clayton is expecting more than 10,000 to attend the last hurrah.

“I think it's going to be huge,” he said.
