Severe weather warning for Fraser Coast

SEVERE thunderstorms are expected to hit the Fraser Coast today.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning that the storms will create damaging winds for the region over several hours on Thursday afternoon.

Locations that could be affected include Fraser Island, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Gympie and Maroochydore..

Emergency Management Queensland has advised people to prepare for the storms by moving vehicles under cover or away from trees, securing loose outdoor items and avoiding using the telephone.

Residents are also asked to be wary of fallen trees and powerlines.
