Government says sex offender laws are ‘toughest in country’
THE Attorney-General, Jarrod Bleijie, says the State Government is standing by its laws on child sex offences.
"The Newman Government recently passed laws such as our tough sex-offender laws and the two-strike policy laws which impose mandatory life imprisonment for a second child-sex offence," a spokesperson for Mr Bleijie said.
"The Queensland Government has the toughest laws in regards to dealing with sex offenders in the country."
The Attorney-General was unable to comment on the specific case in the article concerning a Fraser Coast grandfather calling for tougher penalties and the naming of child sex offenders, the spokesperson said.
