Shane's a shield all-rounder
SHANE Muller took a season off playing representative cricket last year.
South Burnett cricketers probably wish the all-rounder had taken this year off as well after he produced a man-of-the-match winning performance in Kingaroy on Sunday.
The Fraser Coast beat South Burnett by 20 runs in round one of the annual Goodchild Shield, a win Muller had a big say in with both bat and ball.
A day after scoring 112 not out to help Bushrangers beat Australs in the Fraser Coast Cricket A grade round three showdown, Muller scored 55 not out as the Fraser Coast were all-out for 144 after deciding to bat first.
Steve Collins from the Cougars top-scored with 58 while Matt Muller of Australs was the only other batsman to reach double figures after the wicket-keeper scored 14.
The Fraser Coast had look set to post a good score when they were three for 94 at one stage.
A late collapse, which saw them lose their last four wickets for just nine runs, didn't help the Fraser Coast cause.
In reply, South Burnett were in struggling at five for 41 before a 50-run partnership gave them new hope.
That was before Muller struck to leave the innings in tatters, taking four for 17 off almost nine overs, a spell which also included four maidens.
One of Muller's Bushrangers team-mate, Chris Hughes, also got amongst the wickets.
The opening bowler took four for 24.
Fraser Coast captain Bradley Quinn said having Muller in the line-up was certainly very handy.
“He's made a fantastic start to the season at club level (he's scored two consecutive hundreds) and he carried on in that rich vein of form in Kingaroy,” Quinn, who was leading the Fraser Coast for the first time at senior level, said.
“Shane is a quality all-rounder and it showed because the wicket had a bit of life in it when we batted but he and Steve (Collins) made it look easy whereas the other batsmen struggled.
“He then delivered with the ball after Chris (Hughes) and Ash (Renouf) did the early damage.
“As a captain I couldn't ask for anything more.”
The Fraser Coast will play Gympie in round two next month.Scoreboard FRASER COAST v SOUTH BURNETT Fraser Coast P. Mathiesen ct Schultz b Kelly 6 B. Wex ct Schultz b Kelly 1 S.
