Shaun's set to wing it

IT'S not a position he plays on a regular basis.

Usually playing five-eighth or in the centres, Maryborough's Shaun Collins has been selected to play on the wing for the Queensland Rangers side that will take on the NSW Country outfit on July 9 in Coonabarabran.

But he's definitely not complaining about it.

“It's not my usual position but I'm just happy to be selected,” he said.

Collins was selected for the team after playing for Central United. That team won the QRL Divisional Championships with victories over the Northern Marlins and Kookaburras.

Central United's strong form during the championships was rewarded, with six players from the side selected.

Hervey Bay's Tyrone Hopgood, who also played for Central United, was also picked in the Rangers side.

He will take his place in the second row.

Both players have enjoyed strong form for their respective teams this year, with Hopgood playing for the Isis Devils and Collins playing for Bundaberg Brothers in the Bundaberg Rugby League competition.

Hopgood said he was excited to be picked and couldn't believe he had been selected to be part of the side at first.

Central centre Matt Templeman, who crossed for three tries in the two games played by Central, will captain the side, which features leading players from local leagues throughout Queensland.
