Kent Street pet salon opens

A NEW salon on Kent Street has all the makings of a five-star boutique – a clawfoot bath, sparkling treatment rooms and plush cushions piled high on comfy sofas.

Style cuts, nail treatments, colours and ear cleans are all on offer at Woof dog spa and boutique.

That's right – it's a day spa just for pooches and owner Shelly Russo is an expert at spoiling pets.

A qualified dog groomer, Shelly knows all the right styles for different breeds of dogs and uses only the best doggy shampoos.

“In the salon we use shampoos that are made in France and are PH balanced especially for dogs,” she said.

“We even tailor the treatment to the individual dog because dogs are all different – like us.

“We have shampoos for black fur or white fur, treatments for skin conditions and we can even colour the whole dog or just the ears or feet or tail.”

Owners can even do a DIY dogwash using the boutique's equipment.

Shelly opened her doggy day spa this week after working from home for several years.

The shop is stocked with accessories such as jackets, collars and cushions. Many are supplied by Shelly's mum Susan May, who hand-makes dog harnesses and apparel under her label Swanky D.

Even special occasions are catered for, with tuxedos and formal dresses made to order.

But it's not just about looks at Woof dog spa and boutique.

The inner dog is cared for too, with a doggy daycare service available to provide care and company to lonely dogs.

Two day-care rooms are decked out with rugs, toys, couches, cushions and even a television.

A fenced outdoor area is also provided for the animals.

“It's ideal for people who work and usually leave their dog home all day,” Shelly said.

“It breaks up the week if the dog comes here for a day or two.

“Some dogs cry or bark when they are alone but here they have company and get to socialise with us and other dogs.”
