Shilletto still king
THE RACE was tipped to be a showdown between the 21-year-old princess of speed Kristin Brown and her brother, Charlie, 18.
But Maryborough’s Dale Shilleto, the current Queensland and Victorian champion proved he is still the best at Maryborough Speedway on Saturday night, beating the Beenleigh siblings to win the Gold Cup Series in the Formula 500s.
Townsville’s Chris Jensen raced home to win the opening rounds of the Fraser Coast Drivers Championship.
The event attracted a massive field of 46 drivers from throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
Jensen started a long way down the field in the 30-lap feature race and battled his way to the front, coming from nowhere to beat both Greg Worling, a former Australian champion from the Gold Coast, and Gympie’s Glenn Pagel.
Brisbane’s Kev Stow won the Late Model feature race and Cyril Bates won the Nostalgia Sedan feature.
Speedway president Gary Harris said the organisers were impressed with the high level of racing on Saturday night and with the crowd numbers.
The speedway returns in two weeks for the V8 Sprintcar Dash 4 Cash, which will feature America’s Tyler Walker and Australian champion James McFadden.
