Historic Maryborough shipyard eyesore to be demolished

A HISTORIC eyesore, the rusty corrugated iron and wood structure which was once Walkers Shipbuilding on Kent St, Maryborough - will be demolished.

Owner Barry White, of Whites Welding said restoration of the riverside structure that dates from 1877 was out of the question and the time had come for a fresh start.

"It's deteriorated too much to do up - you could spend $3 million on it and there's no financial return," he said.

"But that's life. Nothing lives forever."

Mr White bought the property in 1988 and set up in one of the smaller sheds.
