Park residents shocked at attack

THE PEACEFUL holiday mood at Hillcrest Holiday Park turned on its head early yesterday morning when residents at the popular Burrum Heads site were rudely awakened.

“He came out of his unit and yelled ‘Phone the police’,” one resident described the drama.

“He was starkers. He started running around my caravan.

“He was covered in blood.”

The man said he called the police and then helped to look after the injured man, who was allegedly attacked while he slept in his caravan. He said a man walked away while he had turned his attentions to the victim.

“He was delirious. He was covered in blood.

“He had a hole in his shoulder and a big gash on the inside of his leg.

“I looked after him for about half an hour, until the ambos and police arrived.”

The witness said the injured man’s dog had not barked and it was unlikely his door had been locked. “Very few people close their doors here.”
