Couple pop into Woolies and he pops the question

AMY Gotz always thought partner Clayton Byrne would pop the question over dinner. She never thought he would get down on one knee while they were shopping for it.

The Warana couple became engaged in the fruit and vegetable section of Woolworths Noosaville on Wednesday.

It came just hours after they picked out an engagement ring.

"We had just met up with his mother who was shopping in Woolworths. I was talking to her and he just got down on one knee," Ms Gotz said.

"His mum started to yell and grabbed the camera. I didn't see it coming, especially in Woolworths.

"He just said I looked beautiful with all the salads."

Ms Gotz, 25, said despite the not-so-romantic setting, she couldn't have asked for anything better.

"It's definitely not cliched and it was lovely because his mum was there," Ms Gotz said.

"I love that it was very unique. It will definitely be a memory to tell my kids when they're older."

Mr Byrne, 23, said it was a spur of the moment thing.

"I hadn't really planned to do it. I just thought why not."

It's not the first time an act of love has worked its way into the supermarket chain, including those looking to give a new meaning to walking down the aisle.

"Woolworths has received requests from couples who wish to get married in store," a Woolworths spokeswoman said.

"We've heard stories of a child who was named 'Woolies' after the supermarket.

"We think the news of the marriage proposal in Woolworths Noosaville is just lovely and we wish the couple all the best for their future."
