Signs point to better tourism

NEW strategies by the council to improve its visitor information centres in Maryborough would cost $20,000 and today councillors will consider giving them the go-ahead.

Suggested strategies include improving signage outside the old Highway VIC building — currently being leased for $3,945.68 a month and sub-leased to the Fraser Coast Show Society until July 31 2012 at an annual rental of $5000.

Other suggestions cover:

  • Including the show society staff in VIC training and product familiarisations, improving the VIC display at the Matilda service station to provide “a high profile self-help service”.
  • Arrange the installation of white ‘I’ signs at the north and south approach of the Bruce highway and entrance to Matilda.
  • Continue to implement the Discover Fraser Coast regional co-operative marketing campaign.
