Cox sisters to play for Australia
TWO HOWARD sisters share a very special bond – and a talent for futsal that must be in their genes.
Both will be heading overseas next year to play futsal for Australia – a game they are both passionate about and love.
Requeal Cox, 15, has been playing soccer for nine years and two year ago she found her talent for that sport translated to the indoor version of the game.
She says it was “pretty awesome” to find out she had been picked to play for Australia.
Tegan has been playing soccer for eight years but, like her sister, her decision to start playing futsal is a relatively recent one.
She had a friend that needed a few more players to field a side in the local futsal competition and Tegan put her hand up to help. She already knew something about the game because her sister had already taken it up. “I’m pretty thrilled about it,” she said.
Requeal will be heading to Brazil in May while her sister, Tegan, 13, will be heading to the UK in April to play for the under-14s Australian futsal side.
“We both love soccer,” Requeal said.
Both girls are a bit nervous – neither has been overseas before – but both are thrilled to be excelling in a shared interest.
Occasionally the two girls play against one another in the ladies competition in Maryborough.
“My sister usually wins,” Requeal said.
