Six-month wait for not guilty rule

ANGUS Charles Robert Sullivan was yesterday found not guilty of robbing a 48-year-old man for $6 and a carton of beer.

The Maryborough man was alleged to have punched the victim to the ground before robbing him of the items on May 30 in Maryborough’s CBD.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge in the Maryborough District Court on Tuesday.

The jury was expected to retire yesterday, however, at the close of the Crown case Judge Julie Ryrie ruled there was not enough evidence for the jury to be asked to consider a verdict.

The jury was released and Sullivan was discharged.

Sullivan spent almost six months in prison waiting for his trial after being refused bail in the Maryborough Magistrates Court.
