65 years and still going strong

WHEN Clare went walking along Torquay beach at aged 18, she didn't expect to marry the strapping young man she set her eyes upon.

But fast forward almost seven decades later, Clare and Allan James have been husband and wife for 65 years.

The Maryborough duo celebrated their anniversary on Wednesday with a cafe lunch surrounded by family and friends.

Clare, a self-confessed chatty socialite, said she doesn't argue much with her reserved and sports loving husband Allan.

And it's proof that opposites make the best matches.

"We've been very fortunate," she said.

A pair of sapphire earrings to Clare was Allan's gift of love.

The couple have two children, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
