A KANGAROO wasn't doing much skipping this week, while it was spotted swimming across the Boyne River.

During an afternoon fishing trip earlier this week Tegan Annett and Jared Mercer spotted the roo midway across the river.

In the odd scene, they first thought it was a dog.

"We motored slowly near it to try to guide it to the other side," Jared said.

"With the amount of bull sharks in the Boyne we were a little worried about it."

The kangaroo eventually made it to the other side of the river before hopping off into the bushes.

Although the couple returned without any fish, they still had a great fishing story and video to share.
