A whole lot of fun for competitors

A FLAT tyre and a spot of rain were two of the setbacks Fraser Coast competitors faced in yesterday’s Noosa Triathlon.

About 30 competitors from the Fraser Coast competed yesterday including Ron Acutt, a Hervey Bay man who is second only to one other competitor in the number of Noosa Triathlon’s contested.

A brief spell of rain affected Acutt’s cycling leg yesterday, as he strived to be cautious in the difficult conditions.

He finished in a respectable time of two hours and seven minutes but felt disappointed, Hervey Bay Triathlon Club member Ron Morgan said, because he hadn’t been able to go flat out on the cycling leg.

Lars Olsen was also hindered during the cycling leg when his tyre went flat.

Morgan said it cost the young competitor about 10 minutes to change his tyre.

Fraser Coast competitor Chris Barnes picked up a placing in the Clydesdale event while Natasha Schofield picked up a placing in the Athena event.

Most of the competitors from the Fraser Coast had competed at Noosa before but Katy Barnes and Nick Downs were among those in the event for the first time.

The competitors began the race in stages, with four minutes between starts. Morgan said four minutes was a big improvement on the three minutes given last year as it spread the competition out a bit more.
