Smoke alarms wake family in time to flee house fire

BREAKING: Smoke alarms have saved a family from an early morning fire which left a home extensively damaged.

The occupants of the home were woken by alarms sounding shortly before 2.30am at the Wyley St property in Dalby.

They evacuated the house and called Queensland Fire and Emergency Services which managed to contain the fire to one part of the property.

Smoke was billowing from the premises when crews arrived on scene before containing the fire to the living and kitchen area.

Dalby police said the fire had extensively damaged the inside of the home and smoke damage was reported throughout.

Police said the fire was considered non-suspicious, and initial investigations suggested it was caused by an electrical device left switched on.

Fire investigators will return to the property today.
