Five more controlled burns planned around Dundowran

THE smoke haze blanketing parts of Hervey Bay on Wednesday was caused by a controlled burn at the Riding for the Disabled Association in Dundowran.

The Rural Fire Service burned about five hectares of paddock around the property.

RFS Dundowran first officer David Kohler said the RFS was attempting to do several burns before the hotter summer months.

"We have five more controlled burns to do around Dundowran," he said.

Mr Kohler said the RFS would be busy this summer, with the dry foliage caused by the previous wet seasons.

"It's going to be a bad season," he said.

Mr Kohler said anyone lighting a fire larger than two metres needed to have a permit.
