Search over as divers find body of Korean snorkeller
A KOREAN man who disappeared while snorkelling at Noosa on Christmas Day has been found dead.
Police recovered the man's body late yesterday afternoon from a housing canal section of Weyba Creek.
A report is now being prepared for the State Coroner.
The initial land and water search on Friday had been narrowed to a Weyba Creek site off Lions Park on Noosa Drive by yesterday afternoon, where police divers eventually found the body.
Senior Sergeant Chad McAlister said the man was with a group of people who had travelled from Brisbane to go snorkelling.
"One of them went missing and we were attempting to locate him," he said.
The man was a Korean citizen and the Korean Embassy had been contacted.
A group of representatives from the embassy was expected to arrive in Noosa last night, Snr Sgt McAlister said.
As reported in the Daily yesterday, the man was last seen snorkelling in Weyba Creek about 12.30pm on Christmas Day near Noosa Pde and Witta Circle.
A land and water search failed to locate him by late Friday night and resumed early yesterday morning.
The area near Lions Park was blocked off to boating and other recreational users yesterday, with surf lifesaving and Coast Guard vessels stationed at the search site.
