Hospital's fate is uncertain
NURSES claim the Maryborough Hospital, which was opened in May 1887, is “deliberately being run down” to make way for a new building on the old Yaralla Place site.
And Independent Maryborough MP Chris Foley thinks they may be on the money.
“Queensland Health has openly talked about the poor condition of the existing building so it is feasible that eventually they will demolish it and build an extension there, at the least, to Maryborough Hospital.”
And that’s the proposition Mr Foley will put to Health Minister Paul Lucas in January.
“I’ve asked the minister to come up to Maryborough and look over the area with me and I will be suggesting that if the government is serious about shared services for the Fraser Coast then it should seriously consider using this land it already owns to provide modern hospital services.”
He said the government did not want to sell the land as it formed part of the hospital campus.
