Wide Bay Aust building society becomes Auswide Bank

THE former building society Wide Bay Australia has had an identity change and is now known as Auswide Bank.

It's hoped that by changing the name and becoming a certified bank, Auswide will eventually expand across the country and become as big as the big four banks - ANZ, Commonwealth, NAB and Westpac.

The Auswide Pialba branch in Stockland Hervey Bay celebrated the makeover on Wednesday with cake to welcome new clients in.

Senior customer service consultant Janine Flewell-Smith said the services Auswide provided to its customers would not change with the rebranding.

"The biggest change is now we're an APRA (Australian Prudential Regulation Authority)-certified bank," Ms Flewell-Smith said.

"We've changed our name so that it can be more easily marketed around the country, not just in the Wide Bay area."

She said the bank's strategy was to build up its reputation in Queensland and then expand further.

"We've currently got branches from Cairns through to the Sunshine Coast and Mt Gravatt in Brisbane," she said.

"But we do have plans to move on to the rest of Australia and be as big as the Big Four banks."
