It's funny how people pity you when you tell them that you're usually a solivagant.

There is always a preconceived notion that there should be a travelling companion when you check-in to accommodation or set off on an expedition.

I think this may be more commonplace for women to counter than men due to societal expectations, and perhaps a rather sexist belief that a woman should not travel alone.

This assumption is best negated by Albert Einstein who wrote, "The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before."

The best thing about travelling solo is, inevitably, you will discover how capable you are. I don't travel alone to escape others; I travel alone to become closer and to better understand myself.

There is a kind of magic going away and then coming back all changed. It's easier to become invisible, observe and be a traveller, not a tourist, in a foreign place on your own.

There is nothing wrong with travelling alone and liking it. Travel is the best investment you can make for yourself. Innately, I crave fernweh and will forever have wanderlust.

If I waited for others to join me on my adventures, I may never set off. Someday is not a day of the week. And just think, you never really travel alone as the world is filled with friends waiting to find you.
