FIRE and rescue and police crews scrambled to a small unit fire at the Beach Motel on Thursday afternoon.

Several fire units, police and an ambulance crew were at the scene about 1pm, on the corner of Charlton Esplanade and Ann St.

On-site manager Jackie Blake told the Chronicle she believed there weren't any flames, but smoke was billowing from the spa bath.

She said a housekeeper noticed the smoke.
