St Mary’s a shoe-in at USQ's funny business competition
BY SELLING shoes to their classmates, Maryborough's St Mary's College students have won this year's USQ Fraser Coast Funny Business Competition.
The competition gave students in Years 9 and 10 the chance to run their own small business.
Three schools entered the competition to put their commerce and marketing skills to the test.
Schools had to devise a business plan which involved marketing their product and creating a budget.
After six months of working on their business, the team's plans were judged by a panel of USQ staff.
St Mary's College exceeded the projected sale of their canvas shoes and were crowned winners.
They won a $120 Woolworths gift card.
USQ student liaison officer and business plan judge Carly Ryder said the activity gave students a taste of running a shop.
"It benefits kids by getting them to think about the costs and work involved," she said.
