Staff to open for George

HE WORKED day and night to transform what was George's Greek Restaurant into a premier dining venue at Hervey Bay's WetSide water park.

Yesterday staff confirmed that George's at WetSide would still open to the public.

It was set to be opened from last night but out of respect staff will wait until after George has been laid to rest. A private funeral is expected to be held in Brisbane later this week.

A memorial service will be organised for the Fraser Coast community some time next week.

On Friday night guests got their first chance to see George's dream coming to fruition.

Part two of the grand opening weekend was set to take place on Saturday night.

That afternoon George had been travelling to get more supplies for the festivities when he was killed in a horrific car accident.

His wife Hoyan and staff decided to go on with the celebrations in his honour.

Fraser Coast councillor David Dalgleish said the fact that George had been driving to get the supplies himself was a perfect example of his dedication.

“He loved nothing more than to make others happy,” Mr Dalgleish said. “This was his dream and I could not be more proud of the staff who are keeping it alive.”
