VIDEO: Central Ln Hotel axe robbers stole up to $15K: police
BEFORE staff working at the Central Lane Hotel knocked off for the night when two men came through the front door, one bandit brandishing an axe, threatened staff and made off with between $10,000 and $15,000.
Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said one man matching the description of one of the offenders is currently assisting police with their investigations.
"As of this morning as a result of a search warrant a male person has been taken into custody and is currently assisting police with their inquiries," he said.
"Police were advised that at 1.30am last night an incident occurred where two males entered the premises of the Central Lane Hotel.
"One of those males was armed with what appears to be an axe at which point they've threatened staff with violence and made the staff take them to the safe where they've taken an amount of money we believe to be between $10,000 and $15,000 in cash," he said.
At this stage police are asking anyone for information with regards to these incidents to contact Gladstone police immediately.
THE criminal investigations branch will take over the hunt for two robbers who stole cash from the Central Lane Hotel in the early hours of this morning, a Queensland Police spokesman said.
Two men, one armed with an axe, approached two female employees at around 1:15am before fleeing with the sum of cash.
One of the women was treated at the scene for minor injuries, with a police spokesman saying she was kneed in the head.
"They weren't assaulted with the axe itself, they were just kneed," the spokesman said.
The spokesman said the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) will take over the hunt for the offenders this morning, which will involve "more complex investigations".
The spokesman said the incident was caught on CCTV and police are expected to view the footage this morning.
He said no one has been taken into custody and there are no suspects at this stage.
POLICE are investigating following an armed robbery at a hotel in Gladstone early this morning.
At around 1:15am two female employees were approached by two men, one of whom was armed with an axe, in the business on Yarroon Street.
The men assaulted the women before fleeing the scene with a sum of cash.
The two female employees were treated at the scene for minor head injuries.
The two men are described as dark-skinned and wearing hoodies.
One man is described as being of a slim build and wearing black clothing. The other man is described as being of a solid build with a brown shirt and dark-coloured hoody.
Investigations are continuing.
