Stage 1 of River Heads Rd build to finish as stage 2 begins
STAGE one of the River Heads Rd reconstruction is in the home straight and scheduled to finish in early May.
Guard rails are on site ready for installation and the gravel pavement is being given the final trim in anticipation of bitumen sealing.
The sealing will be undertaken in three stage: Bengston Rd to Gannet Way, Cove Blvd to Bengston Way and a section leading to Cove Blvd.
Other works include repairing erosion to batters, turfing and seeding batters to prevent further erosion.
Work on stage two of the River Heads Rd reconstruction, a 1.2km section of Ariadne St will start in May.
The $2.3 million project has been broken into two stages: the first is a 900m section from 100m west of Russell Dr to the end of the straight at Sheridan St (unmade road) and the second covers the 320m of road through the vine forest down to the boat ramps.
Works will be completed with one lane of traffic open to accommodate multiple daily services to Fraser Island and recreational fishers.
Local company SGQ Civil will undertake the 900m section and the council's staff will undertake the 320m section through the vine forest to the boat ramp.
The council's staff are scheduled to start work on May 4 and SGQ on May 16.
"Ariadne St will be widened to include parking lanes, kerb and channelling," councillor Darren Everard said.
Ariadne St will remain open during the project with works being carried out under traffic control.
The 14-week project should finish in September, weather permitting.
